They Say Patience is a Virtue – A Poem

homeless-20_16

They say patience is a virtue,
So suffering must be too?
Because when waiting becomes pious,
That kind of Piety allows society to stay untrue.
The rich get richer,
The poor get poorer,
And patience becomes a kind of violence
Against ones self.
A celebrated sacrifice,
Spilt blood, a kind of wealth.
And everyone says the waiting is worth it,
to whom?
Who wins while we wait?
And when does it become too late?
Sometimes waiting ain’t waiting – it’s sin.
So I’ll ask the question again.
Patience may make sense when you’re fat and happy,
But for everyone else,
those who wait,
what do they win?
